2048: Build a Stable Corner
2048 moves the entire board with every direction. A good move is not simply the one that makes the biggest merge right now: it also leaves room for the next tile.
Choose a home for the largest tile
Keep your highest tile in a corner where possible. Arrange nearby tiles in descending order. This gives smaller tiles a route toward the larger ones without scattering your progress.
Keep empty cells available
A crowded board reduces your choices. Before making a move, check whether it opens a space or leaves several incompatible tiles trapped together. A new tile appears after each valid move, so empty space is part of your plan.
Understand one-merge-per-move
Four tiles of value 2 moving into one row become two tiles of value 4, not one tile of value 8 in the same move. The new 4 tiles can merge on a later move. Think one step ahead when preparing a chain.
When your preferred direction fails
A corner strategy is a guide, not a rule that guarantees success. Sometimes you must move away from your preferred direction to create space. Check the board before committing and avoid unnecessary opposite-direction moves.
Focus on the process
Restarting produces a fresh board. Use each run to practise keeping the large tiles together and leaving small tiles space to combine. A high score follows good decisions, but tile placement remains random.
